Mathematical Programming Glossary Supplement: Tolerances

چکیده
Whenever we base some decision on a comparison of numerical values, we must consider the impurity of those values. Thus, if a decision depends on whether v = 0, we instead test if |v| ≤ τ , where τ is some small value called a tolerance. More generally, for a particular comparison of the form v = V , we define two tolerances: absolute and relative, denoted τa and τr, respectively. Then, we test if |v − V | ≤ τr|V |+ τa,

Particle Swarm Optimization for Simultaneous Optimization of Design and Machining Tolerances
Tolerance assignment in product design and process planning (machining) affects both the quality and the cost of the overall product cycle. It is a crucial issue to determine how much the tolerance should be relaxed during the assignment process, since a tight tolerance implies a high manufacturing cost and a loose tolerance results in low manufacturing cost. Hence, during tolerance assignment,...
متن کاملInteger Quadratic Programming Models in Computational Biology
This presentation has two purposes: (1) show operations researchers how they can apply quadratic binary programming to current problems in molecular biology, and (2) show formulations of some combinatorial optimization problems as integer programs. The former purpose is primary, and I wish to persuade researchers to enter this exciting frontier. The latter purpose is part of a work in progress....
متن کاملTolerance synthesis by neural learning and nonlinear programming
The tolerance design directly in#uences the functionality of products and related production costs. Tolerance synthesis is a procedure that distributes assembly tolerances between components or distributes "nal part design tolerances between related tolerances. In order to make a reliable trade-o! between design tolerances and costs, it is necessary to obtain the cost}tolerance relationships. V...
متن کاملMathematical Model to Formalize Tolerance Specifications and Enable Full 3d Tolerance Analysis
Tolerances specify the ranges of permissible imperfections so a manufactured part will be acceptable for assembly and use. Standards exist to define classes of tolerances and to ensure proper communication among engineers. The purpose of this research is to continue creating a mathematical model of geometric tolerances. The results from our earlier work show that the proposed math model is comp...
